I spent the better part of the afternoon editing photos and writing an article for Country Roads Magazine about a trip I took with my Mom and Ashley Fox-Smith to visit the storied Bulb Man of Natchez. It inspired me to go out and shoot a few of the perennial bulbs that are coming up around my neighborhood. Pictured here are the bulb bases (rhizomes?) of some Hymenocallis or Ditch Lilies that we dug last year during the trip. The magazine is going to publish a photo essay about this man’s spectacular collection of bulbs and my own recollection of the mania they elicited in the my traveling companions. We are planning a return trip to the Bulb Man on March 26th which I am hopeful will produce even more images. Tomorrow I’ll post the shots that I got today of the local blooms, until then here is my own little promise of Spring and all the beautiful flowers in coaxes up around south Louisiana. I think a fit of botanical photography may be coming on.
